About the Artist

Born near the shores of Lake Erie in East Cleveland, Ohio, John Nagy is a self taught artist who is constantly evolving his work by absorbing all that he can from his love of oceans, streams, rivers and their surrounding regions. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he studied ceramics, art history, glass blowing and horticulture. John also has studied bronze casting at the Columbus Cultural Art Center under the renowned bronze casting artist James Mason.

After he graduated from The Ohio State University, John found employment at his Alma Mater as an illustrator and designer. Early in his career all his illustrations were hand rendered but later performed all his designs and illustrations on a desk top computer. Needless to say, John finds it very refreshing to hand stretch a canvas, to carve wood or to just use pen and ink.

John prefers to work in oil paints, water color, and gauche, but also finds himself drawn to bronze casting, wood carving and pen and ink drawings. His latest ideas can be seen on the “present projects” tab of this web page. To promote his work, John utilizes the internet where he hopes to reach a greater number of people.

John presently lives in Birmingham, Alabama where he occasionally displays his artwork at local galleries. He is an avid canoe and kayaker and when he is not working on his art he enjoys spending time with his wife and their dog, a greyhound named Max.
